to 1994 and the town of Harwick Vermont from 1995 to 2001
THE BOOK
The exciting begining of the Vermont Reggae Festival during the
one and only decade that it could be done-the 1980s. Told by the
founder Bobby Dean Hackney, the title aptly says it all:

The First At Battery Park Burlington Vt 1986
The pilot event that started the rise of the success of an organic grass-
roots festival devoted to providing the community vibe of peace and love
through the power of Reggae music. Launched on the day of Saturday July
18, 1986
The 2nd At Oakledge Park Burlington Vt 1987
The amazing growth of the Vermont Reggae Festival after it’s
first year drew a crowd to Oakledge Park in the thousands. A
crowd size unprecedented at any park in Burlington at the time.
The 3rd At Oakledge Park Burlington Vt 1988
The twenty thousand plus gathering that made it clear that the Vermont
Reggae Festival was now a coveted event loved by the music fans and the
city alike, along with the realization that history was being made.
Now a internationally known festival making crowd size history each
year by attracting more than thirty thousand and contributing to
cultivating a vibe of peace and love along with the musical inspiration of
Roots Rock Reggae music.
The 5th At North Beach Burlington VT 1990
The biggest festival held in Burlington of them all. An estimated 40
thousand people peacefully enjoying the festival. The anticipation of
so many coming prompted city officials to require the committee to
withhold announcing the headline artist before the event.
The 6th At North Beach Burlington VT 1991
The Burlington finale. Upon drawing another near 40 thousand, and after
a six year run of success, the 1991 Vermont Reggae Festival had grown to
such a size that the need for a new home was imminent. This would the
last Vermont Reggae Festival held in Burlington Vt before moving to
Johnson Vt the following year.

Alfred (Tuna) Snider
Upon hearing the idea of a Reggae festival,Tuna
immediately got on board and became instrumental in
securing support and facilities at UVM. Together Bobby
and Tuna along with two UVM students Jeff Nicholson
and Pam Peck Ketcham formed the first of what became
known as The Committee For Vermont Reggae Festival.
Cast Of Volunteers
The Committee For Vermont Reggae Festival grew into a
wonderful array of local citizens, entrepeneurs, and
skillfull tradespeople devoted to making the festival a
social and crowd gathering success
The Pioneers
How It All Started
Bobby Dean Hackney
Inspired by a musical career that now included performing
Reggae music, The founder who after discussing the idea
with his wife at the kitchen table in Jericho, brought the
idea to friend Alfred (Tuna) Snider.
